NYS-ESG Session 10 – Danielle Chow | Keren Timara Permel
March 22, 2025Any entity serious about sustainability and ESG cannot begin to chart and maintain a successful course without understanding the requirements for governance and risk management. Organizations affect and are affected by numerous risks and scenarios that require compliant governance regimes and risk mitigation approaches to support the success of sustainability programs.
The NYSESG pilot project was honored to have Ms. Claire Gomez-Miller CIA FCCA CRMA CA deliver a session to the participants of the program on “Governance and Risk Management in Sustainability.” In her session, the young minds were introduced to a preview of some of the core principles of the corporate world in the realm of governance and risk management. These included values—doing what is right instinctively; reporting principles and concepts; compliance; ethics; risk management policies and appetite; governance and internal control frameworks, among other areas.
By inculcating these principles that underscore governance and risk management, the school participants will be better equipped to construct their respective sustainability projects in phase 2 of the NYSESG. Over the long term, they will also be prepared with the knowledge to become future stewards and leaders in a sustainability-driven world.
